 Dragon NaturallySpeaking blows away all the competition!
Please pardon my terrible grammar. This short review is being dictated using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8.0 preferred edition. I currently have the accuracy settings set at 1.5 out of five.

>I will honestly admit that I was a skeptic at first, but Dragon has made me a believer. Now please let me say that this program does take some training and getting used to.

>One of the best things about Dragon NaturallySpeaking is that you never have to speak to it in monotone, or speak one word at a time, in fact, I highly advise against it, as Dragon NaturallySpeaking is less likely to misrecognize a word if you are speaking in complete, or partially complete sentences.

>If you want Dragon NaturallySpeaking to understand you better, then you should perform additional training. But, I would advise you to wait a couple of days to get used to dictating to your computer.

>Also, Dragon NaturallySpeaking can learn from your dictation style, so every few weeks or so, I recommend using the acoustic optimizer. Please note that the acoustic optimizer is resource consuming and usually takes around one hour.

 Must be a "native" English speaker
It works fine for me (American born); but, I bought it for my wife, who is Chinese. English is a "second language" for her (we've been married 35 years and she's lived in the USA and England all that time). Although she speaks "reasonably good" English, NaturallySpeaking doesn't recognize hardly a word she speaks during the "training phase" where it's so important to "train" the program to the user's voice. She couldn't get thru the training, resulting in horrible results when she attempted to dictate on the program. Completely useless for her.
 The headphone/microphone sucks.
I just bought the software and am in the process of training it using the texts provided. So far the software is learning to recorgnize my voice and speach patterns quite well and with few errors. Training the software is time consuming and boring, but I see it as a necessary evil to achieve the coveted 99% accuracy rate that it promises. BUT the HEADPHONE IS GARBAGE. The part that goas over your head is made of very hard, rigid plastic and its width is not adjustable. This means that my head is being SQUEEZED AS IF BY A NUTCRACKER . I do not have an unusually large head and I am not a mutant cone head. This headphone was not designed for normal humans in mind. It seems that they wanted to save a few pennies on the extra inch of plastic that would have been needed to make this headphone fit properly, or the product testers used a microcephallic dwarf to test their headphone. I am not sure if anyone else got this sorry excuse for a headphone in their package but I am P.offed that I am going to have to go buy another one just so I can use the software.
